Copywriting and Copyediting for Sense and Style
People often ask us to proofread. We can certainly do that, but usually we find that what’s needed is copyediting. This means that as well as finding simple typing errors, we tidy up ambiguities, poor grammar, inconsistent style, incomplete references, inaccurate quotations and the use of twenty words where eight would do. We will establish a consistent use of terminology, spelling, capitalisation, hyphenation, abbreviations and numbers, as well as a consistent and appropriate format in terms of heading hierarchy, page layout, figures, tables and captions. We will also ensure the accuracy of cross-references and the bibliography, and evaluate the overall structure and content.
Copyediting gives you a much better result. However, if proofreading is all you need, we are just as happy to do that.
