Fees
We base our quotes on an assessment of the document you submit. This takes into account the skill and time required to complete the work, and the complexity of the job submitted. Some of our competitors offer a fee of 3 cents per word. Others offer $40.00 per hour flat rate. However, we prefer to assess each job on an individual basis, then provide you with a firm quote for your work. This way you know your total cost up front – it’s a win-win for both of us because:
- We both know where we stand before the job is started. Our credibility remains intact with you because we have given you a firm quote – unlike some others who offer a price, only to contact you towards the end of the job to say it is going to take longer than was originally anticipated. This then, of course, leads to a higher price.
and
You have a firm quote which is valid for 30 days.
Typical Prices
All prices quoted below exclude the GST, and are based on individual timeframe arrangements. For example, a fee may have applied if a particular client required immediate turnaround (as work is normally processed in the order received).
Assignment: Kim, a student, sent a 2000-word document to be proofed and edited. There was very little change to be made to this document, apart from some spelling and formatting errors. The price for Kim was A$65.00.
Essay: Scott, also a student, sent a 1500-word essay. Scott’s essay required a considerable amount of proofreading and editing, and in some places required re-writing. The price for Scott was A$90.00.
Short story: Martine needed her 15000-word short story proofed and edited. This document required only light revision, and the price for Martine was A$450.00.
Thesis: Ben, a Masters student, required a light proofread and edit of his 25000-word thesis. The price for Ben was A$750.00.
Thesis: Ngu, a student for whom English is a second language, required her 35000-word thesis proofed and edited. A significant number of changes needed to be made to correct grammar, spelling and format so that an otherwise excellent thesis could be clearly understood. Because of the complex nature of these changes and the monetary cost involved, we provided Ngu with a sample and comment sheet so that she could see the extent of the work required. We did not go ahead with the work until we had received advice from Ngu to this effect. On such a lengthy job, we based our quote on inspection of 20% of the document. The price for Ngu was A$950.00.
Web Site: Marianne was starting her own business, and had compiled the information for her web site. However, she did not believe her strength was in spelling and grammar/punctuation, and wanted her site to be error-free. The document required light to medium revision. The price for Marianne was A$200.00.
Resume and covering letter: Sacha sent his resume and covering letter to our team. Both documents required significant attention, ranging from editing, reformatting and reorganising most of the content of the resume. The price for Sacha was $90.00.
